Skagway, Alaska

Skagway, Alaska at the northern tip of the Lynn Canal and east of Glacier Bay is the northernmost stop on the Alaska Marine Highway's Inside Passage.  In its heyday (1898), Skagway was the starting point for travel to the Klondike gold fields.  The trip started just outside Skagway where the 33-mile-long Chilkoot Trail, accessible only on foot, ascended the coastal mountains.  I took the trip via the scenic White Pass and Yukon narrow gauge railway which went on to lake Bennett.

Lynn Canal

The Lynn Canal is a natural 90 mile long inlet east of Glacier Bay and
north of Juneau.  Its northern terminus is the town of Skagway.  On
either side of the waterway are glaciers that pour out of the mountains
and descend toward the canal.

Lake Bennett

The White Pass and Yukon Railroad takes you from Skagway, Alaska to the gateway to the
Yukon gold fields.  Seen here is its stop at Lake Bennett and St. Andrew's Church in the Yukon.Iceberg and Fauna

  Alaska Pipeline

The Alaska oil pipeline terminates in Valdez, Alaska.  Valdez was also almost the termination of
Michael Stecker when my car nearly crashed into the raging Copper River just north of town.
